Led Lights

One of the biggest problems that we face as a species is energy consumption. Not only does this require money and resources, but it is having an adverse effect on the world as we know it. One of the best ways to combat this is to use technology to get us to an optimal energy efficient point. This is already begun with technology such as LED lights. LED lights, or light emitting diode, is a bulb that first was designed to be a viable replacement for the standard bulb in control panels. Since that early prototype back in the early 60s it has been a potential game changer in the lighting industry.

It wasn’t until the creation of the ultra bright LED that the market understood the true potential of the bulb. Now you are beginning to see LED lights being used as a replacement light for just about any bulb on the market. One of the only real drawbacks is its initial cost.

The incandescent bulb only costs about $2 for a standard single light. The trouble is, LED lights cost anywhere from $20 on up. At first glances this seems like a huge difference, but if you consider the grand scheme of things you will see that although this may be true, it may not necessarily be in the way you think.

Incandescent bulbs are only capable of lasting a little over a month strait of continuous use. This is about 750 hours. The next best thing, the compact fluorescent, is able to get much more with about 10,000 hours or what amounts to over a year of use. LED lights can get much greater longevity with a standard lifespan of about 100,000 hours or eleven and a half years.

This means that if you were to buy enough of each light to last eleven years then you would spend over $260 on incandescent bulbs, and still only the $20 for the LED lights.

In addition to this remarkable fact, LED lights are also highly cost effective when it comes to their energy consumption. A prime example can be seen with the energy expenditure that is necessary to give the same light needed to compete with the 40 watt bulb. To accomplish this with LED lights you would only need to use 1.5 watts. That means that if you replaced all of your home lights with LED lights you would save a tremendous amount of money in overall cost as well as monthly expense.

LED lights are simply better in just about every way. They are capable of doing more, saving you money, and ultimately this will have a positive accumulative effect on the world around us.
